I’ve been blogging for 12 years.
I started with a mission of impacting one woman.
Just one.
I’ve recently come to understand that the one woman I need to impact right now is me.
So I’m taking a self-care break.
Removing obligations I’ve placed on myself to write, blog, vlog publicly.
Going back to the thing that saved my 6 year-old life.
Writing for me.
Just me.
Writing for survival.
Just survival.
No thoughts of timely posts.
No thoughts of whether something aligns with my brand.
No thoughts of getting the podcast out immediately.
No thoughts of Box fulfillment logistics.
I’m going to take care of me.
And anything I do share via social media will be just because I want to.
Taking time to get my diet, exercise and sleep back on track.
To finish the book(s) I been writing my whole life.
I’ve always said life is a tag team sport for Black girls and women.
And I’m tagging out.
For about 6 months.
And everything will either be here waiting when I get back.
Or it won’t.
And it won’t matter anyway.
I’m gonna keep trying to find Black joy everywhere I can.
And I’m going to be honest with myself when there is no joy to be found.
I am going to take care of me.
I hope that you will too.
And I hope you’ll be here when I get back.
Black girl, we’ll leave this fight for someone else for now
You can close your eyes, let your hair down
Breathe in, breathe outYes, there will be battles,
you sometimes lose
They’d never last for a day in your shoes
You still need to rest too
You still need to rest tooBlack girl, I know how much it hurts,
to always prove your worth
they won’t make it easy but baby believe me
Your life is precious, and you’ll be alright
Let’s lay down for a while, they’ll be just fine
Its ok, you can keep your magic to yourself, keep it tucked away
They’ll have to find another wonder for today
You
don’t always have to be the one to save the world
Its ok, you can keep your magic to yourself keep it tucked away
They’ll have to find another wonder for today
You don’t always have to be the one to save the world
You’re always the one to save the world
And they never say thank you girl
I love you
Goodnight
I love you
Goodnight
