U.N.I.T.Y. On a Whole ‘Nother Level: The Role of Black Men in the Rape/Race Movement

March 30, 2015

Play “That low pro hoe she’ll be cut like a afro […] but I know she’s a loser […] Me and the crew used to do her.”  Bell Biv Devoe “B****** ain’t sh*t but hoes and tricks.”  Snoop Dogg “Put a Molly all up in her champagne, she ain’t even know it, I took her home and enjoyed that, she ain’t even know it.” - Rick Ross By now most of us are familiar with the track. Each generation has its own version but the message remains the same. Women are disposable. Wom[...]

I’m A Survivor: On the Intersection of Politics and My Purpose

October 14, 2014

During the course of my law school application process in my senior year of undergrad, the interviewer at a top-tiered law program asked, “If you could identify one song as the soundtrack of your life, what would it be?” *Cue music* I’m a survivor I’m not gon’ give up I’m not gon’ stop I’m gon’ work harder I'm gonna make it I will survive Beyonce’s track “Survivor” immediately came to mind. If You Build It, They Will Come– NCADV, Theresa’s Fund and the Launch Of DomesticShelters.org

October 7, 2014

Historically, access to computers and other such devices were limited to those of higher socioeconomic classes. Times have changed and many people hold the equivalent of a computer in the palm of their hands. In light of this, organizations (for profit and non-profit) are reaching to meet the needs of their clients online. All organizations. In the sa[...]

This Is Bigger Than Ray Rice and Stephen A. Smith

July 29, 2014

He said all the right words. He looked contrite in all the right places. His word were prepared very carefully and he takes ownership. He even personalized it (I had correctly guessed from his original comments that he had some form of bystander trauma to domestic violence). Still, the apology lacks the passion of the offensive comments. What comes to mind is that because Smith's comments were in response to a Black perpetrator and Black female victim, he is far more likely to get a pass. Soci[...]
