30 Apr The Work
Life Behind the Veil just wrapped up a year-long workshop series with Lincoln College. The series, “They Told You To Go To College, Now What?” was designed to decrease risk factors/increase protective factors that impact retention with a focus on students of color, women and students of lower socioeconomic status. Throughout the year, I facilitated workshops on related topics including time management, self awareness at a predominately white institution, community violence, business etiquette, privilege and oppression, budgeting and healthy relationships. We wrapped up the semester with me hosting an open mic sponsored by the Black Student Union (exec board pictures). I’ve met some amazing students who work to positively impact their families and communities. It is my hope that during my time with them this year, I challenged the students to fulfill their potential in much the same way that they pushed me to challenge myself!
